Louisiana Guild Members: Legislative Notice

SB 264 seeks to reestablish a movie and film infrastructure tax credit program by allowing the current program to be used for the development of additional infrastructure at a time when the state cannot afford it. We believe this will ultimately be harmful to the credit and the entertainment community in Louisiana. Please help defeat this bill by contacting members of the House Ways and Means committee.

SB 264 by Sen. Chaisson could be heard in House Ways and Means as early as Monday. Click here for a list of House Ways and Means members. Or call members of the House Ways and Means Committee at the Capitol at (225) 342-6945. We need to have all LIFE members and all film industry supporters make calls to the members of the House Ways and Means Committee. The message is simple: SB 264 expands the film tax incentive program at a time when the State cannot afford it. The industry does not support this bill and asks the committee members to vote against it.

This bill seeks to reestablish a movie and film infrastructure tax credit program by allowing the current program to be used for the development of additional infrastructure.

The bill is not supported by the Louisiana film industry. The bill will expand the program at a time when the state can't afford it and the industry has not asked for additional credits.

SB 264 puts Louisiana production companies and businesses at a competitive disadvantage. The high $50 million production threshold is designed to prevent almost every existing Louisiana production company from ever being able to take advantage of the new infrastructure credits. Allowing a handful of California companies to come in and purchase equipment for less could force those who have already invested in Louisiana without the benefit of these credits OUT OF BUSINESS.

The fiscal cost to the state is indeterminable and may end up costing the state tens of millions of dollars and under the current language can be abused to allow for the credits to be utilized for the purchase of various real estate, movable items, etc. simply because they bear some relationship to movie and film productions. The potential abuses are staggering.
